I am a rat,
A glittery eyed scraggely whiskered rat in the city hungry.
My day is night.
This bright gray makes me sleepy.
Spattered with detritus I lick vomit grown cold from the gritty concrete.
I hide in the walls of despair hotels listening to prayers and carelesly sniffing sexual intensities.
I scurry over rain wet light streaked broad avenues on practiced gnarly clawed paws to tear and bite my way through garbage.
I come to you in the darkness.
I come to little children in the darkness.
I come to uneasy dreams in the darkness.
I come to defecate on the shadows of souls in this darkness, in this holy darkness breathing many beings.
My tongue burns as I polish the shards of glass from a broken wine bottle.
My tongue burns in this dream of rat need.
