----------Far Harbor
-----
As though it were
That point on paper
Named, representing a far place
Where you once lived
And the wide water by it.
As though I were
Set on the far shore
Gazing past sheen and horizon
To where you were
And longing over that gulf.
I get into the cab
And take the wheel
Through the twenty year familiar town
Carry the blind boy
Up the hill
From mother to grand-mother
And the real gulf
Is not so far
So far...
As from my night yard
I look over at the lights
Where you are
Longing.
